About Me
Hello there, I’m Chikako, an illustrator from Japan now living in beautiful Saskatoon, Canada.
I have illustrated over 10 picture books in Japan and Canada, worked for local magazines, and designed surface patterns for products, all based on my cozy and heartwarming style. Working with clients has taught me the joy of seeing my designs come to life as products.
In 2022, I dreamt of having an illustration shop alongside my client work.
My first product was a print that I made with a home printer. I still remember how excited and uneasy I felt at the time. Through selling my artwork locally, I learned just how warm and supportive the community can be.
I also self-published a book called "The Secret Clothing Shop," inspired by an idea I had when I first started drawing. This was one of my biggest achievements, as it made my dream of being an illustrator come true.
Over the course of a year, I participated in more than 30 markets to learn the entire process of product creation, presenting my work, and collaborating with other local artist vendors.
In 2023, I started a sketchbook community to bring together local people who love drawing. It was a fascinating experience to see my event help people who needed art friends. As an immigrant, I know how challenging it can be to form meaningful relationships in a foreign country.
In 2024, I began sharing my experiences on YouTube to offer my knowledge and perspectives.
My goal is to connect with artists who have lots of inspiration and ideas to share while also supporting those who need positive words to fuel their creativity. The early stage of my art journey was emotionally difficult, so I want to reach out to people who feel the way I once did.
In the same year, I moved from Vancouver to Saskatoon to build a more sustainable life.
I left many of my artworks in a café I loved visiting in the mornings—it's the only place where my works are displayed outside. My next goal is to open my own shop, where I can make people smile and feel cozy. This is just the beginning of that chapter.
